ARLINGTON, Va. — Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions (CAES), a leading provider of mission critical RF, microwave and millimeterwave solutions, has joined the Open Group Sensor Open Systems Architecture™ (SOSA) Consortium, which allows flexibility in the selection and acquisition of sensors and subsystems that provide sensor data collection, processing, exploitation, communication and related functions over the full life cycle of C4ISR systems. Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions has extensive expertise in designing and providing next-generation commercial and defense electronic solutions and is making investments in direct-to-digital techniques. CAES enables operators with industry-leading, high density RF package integration, and improved, extensible, high performance capabilities such as low phase noise, high spurious suppression, and high instantaneous bandwidth. By joining the SOSA Consortium, CAES will contribute RF expertise to help drive forward new capabilities in Modular Open Systems Approaches (MOSA).
“The SOSA Consortium focus is on creating modular, open system reference architectures applicable to military and commercial sensor systems and a business model that balances stakeholder interests, aligns well with our markets, capabilities, strategic focus and the end users’ needs,” said Jeff Hassannia, Senior Vice President of Business Development, Strategy, and Technology, Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions. “Having well defined interfaces alleviates additional development costs, reduces costs and program schedules, and increases platform re-configurability.”
As sensor systems increase in usage and functionality, they need to be flexible and reconfigurable, while also addressing issues such as affordability, versatility and capabilities. The SOSA Consortium enables government and industry entities to collaboratively develop open standards and best practices to enable, enhance and accelerate the deployment of affordable, capable, interoperable sensor systems.
"We are very pleased that Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions has joined The Open Group SOSA Consortium as our newest Member”, said Judy Cerenzia, VP of Forum Operations at The Open Group. “We welcome their expertise and look forward to their contributions to the SOSA Technical Standard and Business Strategy as we continue to evolve the SOSA ecosystem.”
Cobham Advanced Electronic Solutions offers a broad portfolio of custom and off-the-shelf RF and electronic solutions that empower radar, electronic warfare, signals intelligence, and communications applications, which are central to the focus of the SOSA Consortium. These solutions will be displayed at the upcoming The Open Group FACE™ and SOSA™ Consortia Expo and TIM on September 22, 2020 at the Solomons Conference Center, located near Naval Air Station Patuxent River (NAS Pax River), Maryland. *Note: due to the COVID 19 pandemic, this could be a virtual event, so please stay tuned for further updates. More information on CAES' SOSA and MOSA capabilities can be found here.
